October 27, 2020: From the COR Detroit and confirmed by the OU:

• Cap'n Crunch Cereal - Regular (Original): The OU has informed us that although this cereal bears an OU-D, it is actually 100% pareve and is produced on pareve equipment. Years ago it was produced on dairy equipment and was labeled OU-D, and the packaging has not yet been updated.
• Quaker Oatmeal Squares Cereal in Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Golden Maple and Honey Nut varieties with an OU-D do not contain dairy ingredients, but are produced on dairy equipment.

Kashrut Information - Oatly Frozen Desserts

November 23, 2021 and August 28, 2023 from the OU in response to the editor's question:

The Oat-ly Frozen Dessert are labeled OUD, but in fact, its true status, at the present time, is DE (Dairy Equipment).

What does DE mean? A DE product does not contain actual dairy ingredients, but it is manufactured with heat on dairy equipment. DE items may be eaten after meat, but not with meat at the same time.

Many products qualify to be DE but are labeled OUD because OUD is a less confusing symbol for the kosher consumer. Also, to be a true DE product, the equipment must be properly cleaned of residue after dairy production, and that level of cleanliness is sometimes difficult to maintain and guarantee.

Please note that it is possible that the manufacturer will reformulate this product and add a true dairy ingredient. You will not be able to know this, since the OUD kosher symbol will remain the same. We recommend that you contact our office every few months to reconfirm the DE status of this product.

Chodosh Updates

  1. FINAL Oats date: Production date of August 29 and a Purchase date of September 15. Please stock up before thenh to avoid problems later on.
  2. FINAL Wheat date: Production date of August 19 and a Purchase date of September 1, except for fresh baked goods in the midwest that have a cut off date of August 20.
  3. FINAL Barley date: Production date of August 15 and purchase date of August 25.
  4. Durum wheat: No code available. All pasta and other products made with durum wheat can be purchased without checking codes.
  5. Barley malt is not an issue at all yet and does not need to be checked. Please be aware that there have been changes in barley malt production over the years and the guide is revising its guidance about malt based on the new information. Updates will be issued as soon as they are available.
  
  Clarification: All products can be purchased until the relevant purchase date without checking for Yoshon status. Once that date has passed, Yoshon status of each product needs to be checked. Yoshon codes for many products will be published in the Guide to Chodosh.

     Oats: All oat products can be purchased through August 29 without checking any dates or codes in the United States of America. Canada will be even later.
     Wheat: All wheat products can be purchased through at least August 20th in the United States except for freshly baked goods in the Midwest that can be purchased through August 10th without checking any dates or codes.
     Barley and Durum Wheat: can be purchased without checking. No information is currently available about dates or codes. Please check for next week's update for more information.

  • Wheat flour: All Trumps from BF Mill- Sept 15, 2023. So code should be 09 15 23. No need to check till after that date. ,li>Oats- No chodesh concerns on any oats until Aug 31 at least.

    • Eastern oats – harvest will not start before third week of August at the earliest. Plant do not expect to receive new crop before Labor day. Actual milling will depend on how dry the husks are and carryover from last year. Western oats – dates look very similar to eastern products. Currently, this year’s crop appears to be 1-2 weeks later than previous years. Again, for actual milling start dates, additional factors come into play.”(Source: COR Canada)
