February 18, 2016 - The CFIA is reporting the following recall:
Freshpoint Vancouver, Ltd. is recalling Del Monte and Sysco Imperial Fresh brand cantaloupes from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers who are unsure if they have the affected cantaloupes are advised to check with their retailer. Recalled products:

The products were distributed to food service and retail stores nationally.

This was brought to our attention by FDA after their contract testing laboratory analysis revealed the presence of Salmonella in one of the 19 retail 5oz bags of Valued Naturals Raw Pistachio Kernels, Lot 79249. As a precaution, additional products are being recalled as they may be contaminated since they were packed from the master lot that came to our facility. We are working closely with FDA to determine the cause of this situation.

Consumers who have purchased this recalled product should not consume it. They should return it to the point of purchase. Consumers with questions should call Customer Service at 973-361-7044, 8:15 am – 4:30 pm, EST, Monday through Friday.

FDA Investigates Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Poona Linked to Cucumbers

The FDA, CDC, and state and local officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Poona linked to "slicer" cucumbers, supplied by Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce and grown in Baja, Mexico. This type of cucumber can also be called "American" cucumbers.
According to the CDC, as of January 26, 2016, 888 people infected with the outbreak strains of Salmonella Poona have been reported from 39 states.
CDC Update: On January 26, 2016 the CDC reported an updated case count. Since the last update on November 19, 2015, 50 more ill people have been reported from 16 states. Tennessee was added to the list of states with ill people, bringing the total number of states to 39.
The number of reported illnesses has declined substantially since the peak of illnesses in August and September; however, it has not returned to the number of reported illnesses that would be expected to be seen (about 1 every month). The investigation into the source of these illnesses is ongoing.

Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce (A&W) is recalling all cucumbers sold under the Limited Edition label because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

1 1/9 Bushel Limited Edition Cucumber Carton, Sizes: Plains (60-84 count), Extra Large (48 count), Large (60 count), Super Select (72 count), Super Select Special (84 count). These cucumbers are shipped in a black, green, yellow, and craft colored carton which reads Limited Edition Pole Grown Cucumbers. This variety is often referred to as a Slicer or American cucumber. It has a dark green color. It typically has a length of 7 to 10 inches and a diameter of 1.75 to 2.5 inches.

Dole Salad Recall

Advice to Consumers, Restaurants, and Retailers:

Consumers should not eat packaged salads produced at the Dole processing facility in Springfield, Ohio and Restaurants should not serve, and retailers should not sell, packaged salads produced at the Dole processing facility in Springfield, Ohio.
The packaged salads produced in this facility were sold under various brand names including:

Dole
Fresh Selections
Simple Truth
Marketside
The Little Salad Bar
President's Choice

Consumers can identify these packaged salads by the letter "A" at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the package.
At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that packaged salads produced at other Dole processing facilities in the United States are linked to illness.
This advice is particularly important for consumers at higher risk for listeriosis, including pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems.

Dole distributed the salads to retailers in: Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Massachusetts., Maryland, Minnesota. Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec
No additional Dole facilities are affected. Other Dole products, including fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and packaged salads from Dole’s other processing facilities (with product codes beginning with the letters “B” or “N”), are not part of this voluntary withdrawal.
Retailers and consumers who have any remaining product with an “A” code should not consume it, and are urged to discard it. Retailer and consumer questions about the voluntary withdrawal should be directed to the Dole Food Company Consumer Response Center at 800-356-3111) (hours are 8:00am-8:00pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday). The following health alert is from the FDA on December 31, 2015.

Thomas Produce Company of Boca Raton, FL is recalling 174 bulk-packed containers of Cucumbers. This product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
This product was sold to distributors in Florida and Georgia between 12/15/2015 and 12/16/2015. All distributors that received this product have been notified as of the time of this press release.
The fresh, whole, green Cucumbers were sold in 166 cardboard bushel boxes (1 1/9 bushel size) with one of the following lot numbers ink-jet printed on the side: 1554311JDNK, 1554311HDNK, and 15143115DNK. These cucumbers were also distributed in 8 bulk cardboard bins(4'x4' size) tagged with codes 15NKJD-1554311-D, 15NKHD-1554311-D, and 15NK5D-1514311-D.
This recall notice is being issued due to an isolated instance in which a sample of Thomas Produce Cucumbers yielded a positive result for Salmonella in a random sample test conducted by the FDA. Out of an abundance of caution, the company has elected to recall all lots of cucumbers that were packed on the same day. The company has ceased production and distribution of the affected lots of cucumbers as the FDA and the company continue their investigation.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to not consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the original place of purchase.
